I had the pleasure of talking with René Marsh, a woman whose face you likely know even if you don’t know the full weight of the story behind it. As a CNN national correspondent, Marsh has spent decades chasing the adrenaline of breaking news, standing in front of cameras from the humid chaos of Miami to the freezing isolation of Greenland. But to understand the current iteration of Marsh — not just the journalist, but the author and the advocate — you have to look past the chyron and into a life shaped by gritty Queens determination and a personal loss that reshaped her entire worldview.
